The Infiniti was contacted earlier in the year by New York based Lindblad Expeditions, who were making a visit to the Andaman Islands for the very first time from the National Geographic Expedition vessel MV Orion. Coming to this remote corner of the world, they wanted to include diving as part of the day in the Andamans – especially since they had diving legends such as Ms Valerie Taylor onboard.

We designed an ideal plan for them, optimizing variables such as season, requirements of divers and snorkelers / non-divers, experience levels, sailing time, anchorage availability etc. We also arranged two well-qualified scuba guides from our team to go with them. We have just completed our second season of dive trips in the Andaman Islands, and have dived everywhere – from the southern islands of Cinque, Sisters’, Passage, the wreck at Chidiya Tapu, Havelock, Neil, the amazing volcanic Barren Island and even the super remote ancient Narcondam Island – and all the dive sites in between!! Nobody has dived the Andamans like we have, from October to May.

Our pick for the Lindblad Expeditions team was the beautiful, uninhabited island of Cinque. This jewel of an island is part of the MG Marine park. It has absolutely no human habitation but is amazingly rich in flora and fauna including deer & monitor lizards. The surrounding waters are an official sanctuary as they are home to an enormous variety of coral reefs, sea weeds, colorful fishes, shells, starfish, sea anemones, turtles and more. It is surrounded by coral reef gardens that extend to a few hundred meters into the deep sea, with super visibility everywhere.

With no ferry services available, and day boats of Havelock not making their way here, this is as exclusive & peaceful as it gets!

The Lindblad Expedition’s report of the diving/snorkeling  day in the Andaman Islands says:

“With the rocky and ruggedly beautiful backdrop of Cinque Island behind us, today was all about the underwater world that encompasses this faraway island chain. Shuffling off the National Geographic Orion’s snorkel platform and into the balmy water, we were met with a myriad of colours and an abundance of fish.

Diving and snorkeling in such a remote and peaceful location was an experience that cannot be achieved by the every day traveller. Looking down on the busy reef we could see it was alive with butterfly fish and parrotfish seemingly hurrying about their business. Very few people can claim to have snorkelled in the Andaman Islands and it was certainly an experience we will remember.

The divers also reported wonderful dives today. With the expert knowledge of the local dive guides, the divers were taken to the best sites in the area, ending their day with a dusk dive as the sun began to set.

As the sunlight faded we toasted to what has been a unique day and a rare chance to experience the intricacy of the Andaman Islands first hand.”
